Top 5 Parks in Concord, NC

The parks rounding out the top five include; James Dorton Park, Frank Liske Park, Les Myers Park, Mickey McGee Park and Caldwell Park.

James Dorton Park is conveniently located near to I-85 right off of Poplar Tent Rd in Concord, NC. It is part of the Afton Village neighborhood. Afton Run Creek traverses this 30 acre public park and is flanked by soccer fields on either side. Tennis players love the lit tennis courts and our community frequently gathers in the three large picnic shelters. This park is the unique location of an 18 hole frisbee golf course and a network of jogging and walking trails. Enjoy Dorton park at one of their next community events or 5k races.

Frank Liske Park is centrally located in Cabarrus County and is one of the largest parks in Concord, NC at 238 acres. This park was the previous site for a working farm for the Stonewall Jackson Training School and is named in honor of Mr. Frank Liske who worked for the training school for 48 years. Relics of the training school are still available onsite for visitors to enjoy. This park also offers a 10-acre stocked lake for fishing and boating. Canoe and paddle boat rentals are available. A massive sports field complex is also onsite offering 11 soccer fields, 4 softball fields, an 18 hole mini golf course, volleyball courts, playgrounds, 6 lighted tennis courts  and a host of nature trails. Picnic shelters are also available for rental. Please come experience Frank Liske Park for the day or join in with one of 8 weekly summer camps hosting over 600 campers each year.

Les Myers Park is located in the heart of Concord, NC. It encompasses 21 acres and is an excellent choice for a family visit or to host a local event. Three picnic shelters are available all with water, electric and charcoal grills. You’ll find plenty of playground equipment for the kids and a unique concrete skating rink. Lighted tennis courts and sports fields are also available. For special events, Les Myers Park offers an amphitheater that provides more of an intimate setting for private events.

JW Mickey McGee Park is a 14 acre passive park located in Concord, NC in Cabarrus County. This park has one picnic shelter with charcoal grill, water and electricity. The expansive playground and play area will be sure to please the kids. The unique part about Mickey McGee is how it integrates into the Harold McEachern Greenway. 1/4 mile of paved trail in the park transitions into 4-6 miles of paved trail that traverses Branchview Drive and twisted and turns through the streets of historic Concord and is open to both foot and bike traffic.

Caldwell Park is located right off Georgia Avenue in SW Concord. In addition to all the expected park amenities, Caldwell park offers an amazing amphitheater with sound and A/V capabilities. Multiple shelters and meeting places are available, including the Dan Pharr Community Building which is climate controlled and has offers indoor kitchen and bathrooms. This 24 acre park provides a lot for a relatively small geographical area.
